How to use a self-service launderette

  1. Choose a machine

Pick a machine that fits your load. Don't overfill — clothes need room to move. A standard load of clothes fits in 8kg. Bedding usually needs 14kg or more.

  2. Add your laundry and detergent

Load your clothes and add detergent. We sell tablets and liquid at the counter if you don't have any. Use the amount specified on the detergent packaging — more is not better.

  3. Select your cycle and pay

Most everyday clothes wash well on a 40°C cycle. Whites and heavily soiled items can go at 60°C. Pay by card, Apple Pay, or coins at the machine.

  4. Wait or come back

Standard wash takes around 40 minutes. You can wait in the launderette — we have seating and free WiFi — or leave and come back. Do not leave your washing in the machine when it finishes or another customer will need to move it.

  5. Move to a dryer

Transfer your washing to a tumble dryer. Each cycle is 8–10 minutes. Most loads need 2–3 cycles. Take your laundry out promptly — damp clothes left in a dryer will cool down and need another cycle.

Payment

All machines accept card and coin. You can also pay at the counter.

What to sort before washing

Common questions

Do I need to bring my own detergent?
No. We sell detergent tablets and liquid at the counter. You can also bring your own preferred brand.
Can I leave while my washing is on?
Yes. Set a timer on your phone so you come back when it finishes. Please move your washing out of the machine promptly — if you leave it too long, another customer will need to move it to use the machine.
What if the machine stops or there is a problem?
Come to the counter. Staff are on site from 7am and will help sort any machine issues. If a machine takes your money and does not start, we will refund you or move your load to another machine.
Is there somewhere to wait?
Yes. We have seating inside and free WiFi. Most people stay for the wash and then leave while it dries, or stay for the full cycle.
Can I just use the dryers if I have already washed at home?
Yes. Bring your wet washing in and use the dryers. The cost is £1.50 per cycle.
